Question: I need to wein myself off of methadone, help!?

I am an 18 year old female, and I have been on the methadone maintenance treatment since last october. Before methadone, I was using oxys , maybe about an 80mg a day or more. The highest dose of methadone I have gone up to was 90mg ( I take it in liquid form with tang ) and now I am at 40mg. My methadone doctor will NOT wein me off methadone yet. He says "once you are at a stable dose, you'll stay on it for another year. " And I wasn't even doing that many pills to be on methadone! I only thought that meth would get me high, but it didn't, and now my body is addicted to it. I have been taking less and less of my methadone drink , but it isn't working out that way. Every monday, I have to go to the meth doctor, and he makes me take the full dose in front of him. Then the other days , I have my take home meth drinks. I cannot tell my doctor that I've been taking only half my drink, or he will make me take it infront of him EVERYDAY which I cannot drive 3 hrs everyday just for that. Also, ever since I've been on methadone, I've been gaining weight like crazy! I used to be 100lbs ( at 5'2) and now I'm friggin 130! Has anyone on methadone noticed weight gain? Can anybody relate to my situation and help? Please , I need to get off of this. Methadone has been increasing my health problems and self esteem issues (weight gain) and I just neeeed to get off this crap! |
